CATCH OF THE DAY

fishing for fathers 2015

WORMS FOR FISH–Just two of the youngsters preparing to cut bait and cast their lines into Lake Opechee during the ‘Fishing with Father Figures’ free special event celebrating the importance of men in the lives of children.

The importance of men in the lives of children was highlighted at a recent free event celebrating fathers and father figures on Saturday, June 6, 2015. The fun afternoon, entitled ‘Fishing with Father Figures’ took place at Opechee Park in Laconia and was hosted by the Family Leadership Council of the LRCS Family Resource Center.

This special outing allowed a range of father figures (dads, grandpas, uncles, brothers, stepdads, and family friends) to enjoy quality time with family, meet other fathers and learn about various helpful supports offered by the Family Resource Center. Held on Free Fishing Day–no license required!–participants brought poles if they had them, while extra poles (including even pink ones) and bait were made available to fishing novices. There was also grilling and other fun family activities.

This well-attended event was made possible by generous local donations from: Hannaford, Vista Foods, Shaw’s, BJ’s, Walmart, Laconia Ice and Martel’s Bait Shop. Our grateful thanks for their help. Many fish were reeled in, but fun and bonding were the top catch of the day!
