Our Hot Dogs are served with the ‘WORKS’

Hot Dog CartIf you drive or walk by the Lakes Region Community Services’ Main Office in Downtown Laconia during the week, chances are you’ve seen the Dawgs2Go , hotdog vending cart, operating near the entrance of the agency’s parking lot, directly across the street from the Laconia Clinic.

This is the first year the cart is located in the middle of Downtown Laconia, but the fourth year Dawgs2Go has been in business. In its first season, the hotdog cart was located at Smoke n’ Barley in Belmont and during the last two years it was at the Happy Cow ice cream stand on Union Avenue in Laconia.

What you may not know about Dawgs2Go is that it is more than a convenient place to pick up a tasty and inexpensive lunch in the spring, summer and fall. It is one of many community-based businesses operated by StaffWorks of LRCS that provide individuals with disabilities an opportunity to learn job skills and to earn a paycheck.

StaffWorks businesses also include: The Green Tangerine – Downtown Gifts in Laconia, Kil’n Time, an art and ceramics studio in Downtown Plymouth , The Readery in Downtown Plymouth , and The ClothesLine Resale Boutique in Laconia.

And LRCS’ agency-operated businesses are only one part of the story. Many individuals we support have paid employment at businesses throughout the Lakes Region. LRCS also partners with local businesses to develop internship programs. These internships create a win-win situation, helping people develop job skills, increasing the pool of trained, qualified job applicants and supporting an inclusive community for us all.
