LRCS Wellness Committee Starts Summer Gardening Project

LRCS garden grows food and gardening skills.

Lakes Region Community Services’ employees along with individuals supported by the agency are getting an opportunity to enjoy nature’s bounty while learning about gardening.

The LRCS Wellness Committee secured a community garden plot with Belknap County Conservation District for the 2017 season. These plots, located at the corner of Old North Main Street and Parade Road in Laconia,  provide the perfect opportunity for those who want to garden but do not have space for it at home.

The garden contains tomatoes, beans, summer squash, zucchini, butternut squash, eggplant, lettuce, cucumbers and peppers. This gardening project serves a few purposes. First, it gives individuals the opportunity to work in the garden, weeding and harvesting the produce, while learning to grow their own food. It’s also providing a source of fresh delicious vegetables available for individuals and LRCS staff to enjoy.
